Service Description
We open our studio for former students and experienced kiln workers to use our equipment to make art. We don't provide instruction during that time but we are there to help you use the equipment and will probably be making our own art right beside you. Come join us! INCLUDES - Time: Open Studio is open from 9-12 Saturday mornings. Participants are welcome to drop in and work anytime during that window or for the entirety of that window. - Firing: One firing in the GL20 or Vitrograph Kiln. Participants are provided a slot on the kiln controller and expected to program their own firing schedule. We will help as we can but each artist is responsible for their own firing. - Tools: Access to warm shop tools and cold shop equipment for which the participant is qualified. We can teach and checkout participants for cold shop equipment as necessary during open studio. - Scrap: Access to MGW scrap glass. Clear tekta scrap is free, color is paid for by the pound. DOES NOT INCLUDE - Glass/Consumables: Participants are expected to bring their own glass/materials. We can sell out of our stock when helpful, but we do not carry a full bullseye selection. If artists communicate in advance, we are happy to add group orders onto our regular resupply order to save you shipping/freight. - Hot shop: If you require hot shop equipment / glassblowing support for your works (eg hot casting, rollups, etc), Contact us in advance to discuss. PREREQUISITES Experience - Some knowledge of kilnforming is required. This can be via any intro to kiln working classes at MGW or other studios. Safety - All participants must follow MGW safety rules at all times. For first time Kiln Studio members, we will provide a walk through sign off on each piece of cold working equipment prior to allowing you to work on your own in the cold shop. Friendliness - This is a working art studio. Artists helping artists. You are welcome to bring food, beverage and music, whatever makes you comfortable while making art. But do so with a respectful attitude to those sharing the space and tools please.
