## About Guided Skills courses. This class is part of the Guided Skills series. Open Studio members can add a guided session or sessions to their open studio time. They will get access to a follow along curriculum and a coach will be available to help you complete the class during your open studio time. Fees for the coursework include: + instructor fees, + course guide, + kiln firings + supplies (glass, mold materials, refractory, and other consumables depending on the class). ## About This Course Pate de Verre is a traditional technique where glass artist create a plaster silica mold of an object, pack that mold with glass powders, then cast the hollow form into elegantly detailed forms. See the classic works of Amalric Walter and the contemporary masterpieces by Kimiake Higuchi. For this project, you will spend four studio sessions to create a pate de verre bowl: Day 1: Create Mold - Use clay/wax and sculpting tools to create decorative bowl positive. Day 2: Prepare & complete a the build of a Pate de verre mold using plaster silica. Day 3: Pack glass into mold and prep for casting, load kiln and start a proper firing schedule Day 4: Divesting and finishing
Cancellation Policy
These courses are only available to active open studio members or full time MGW resident artists. If you are purchasing this class without being a member, you will be required to purchase an open studio membership for the period. Since the course is taught in small group sessions during the open studio period, you will not have exclusive access to the instructor, instead they will be available to you as you work through the curriculum and questions. If you wish private, 1:1 coaching, please book private coaching sessions instead. This course requires some preparation of materials in advance. So please book early and communicate quickly if you need to reschedule.
