Service Description

Discover the fundamentals of kiln-formed glass in a hands-on, judgment-free environment. Whether you're a curious local or visiting artist, you'll gain the confidence to cut, assemble, and fire your own glass pieces. This class is made for makers who want a more than a one day 'taster' class. It provides a foundation in core principles for making in glass: +glass properties, +kiln programing for specific outcomes, + slumping, texture and image making techniques, + planning & design in the glass medium, —knowledges and skills that unlock countless creative possibilities. Upon completion of this class you will feel comfortable designing and planning your own projects, firing in your own or other's kilns, and finishing/cold working for high quality finished results. As you continue to gain experience and interest you can expand on this foundation here or at other studios. Join a welcoming community of makers who support each other's growth. ## What You'll Learn - **Week 1 (The Mosaic Plate):** Master the glass cutter and geometric strip-construction to create a fused glass bowl. We'll teach the glass firing curve and how glass reacts through various temperature states. You'll also learn to write and use your own kiln firing schedules for fusing slumping 6mm glass functional objects. - **Week 2 (Soaring):** You will design a butterfly or bird from scratch, practicing moving from concept to multi-step firing in complex forms. - **Week 3 & 4 (The Bob Ross project ):** Use stencils, glass powder, and enamel paints to create deep, three dimensional 'happy little trees' and by doing so, learn to plan and complete thicker, narrative and sculptural works. - **End Result:** You'll leave with three completed glass pieces and the foundational language & skills to continue independently in Studio Colab or your own home studio. ## Important to Know - **Prior Experience:** None required. We start from zero. - **Class Size:** Maximum 6 students per session (Ensures individual attention and kiln access). - **Materials:** All glass, molds, and firings included in tuition. - **Finish:** All pieces are kiln-fired on-site. You'll take them home at the end of each session or final class
