Service Description

Course Level: INTERMEDIATE Format: 3-Day Weekend Intensive Why Take This Class? Turn your valuable glass studio scraps and cast-offs into elegant, wearable jewelry components. This workshop focuses on the lost-wax casting method for small, intricate forms using a reusable refractory. We will introduce the process of hand-carving the initial wax form to the final cold-shop polish, gaining a production-ready technique for both glass and metal jewelry. This class is perfect for makers seeking to develop a sustainable, profitable, and zero-waste practice. Who Is This For? Intermediate glass artists with prior kiln-forming experience. Ideal for anyone committed to a more sustainable art practice who wants to create finished, portfolio-ready wearable art. What You'll Learn Wax Carving for Glass: Techniques for creating small, detailed, and clean-releasing forms suitable for investment casting. Spruing, Investment and Burnout: Applying and curing Mold Mix 6 refactory Scrap Glass Billet Prep: How to safely and strategically utilize small, pre-fused, or scrap glass in the casting process. Casting & Annealing: Kiln casting glass into the mold and managing the annealing cycle for small objects. Cold Shop Finishing: Polishing and precision drilling to prepare the glass components for jewelry findings. Important to Know Prior Experience: Intermediate kiln-forming or casting experience required. Class Size: Maximum 6 artists Materials: All carving wax, refractory, glass, and firings included. Physical Requirements: Fine motor skills for detailed wax carving. Light standing. What to Bring: Closed-toe shoes, water bottle, and a notebook for firing notes. Optional: basic hand tools for carving. Finish: Components are annealed on-site and ready to take home Sunday PM.


Cancellation Policy

Space is limited and materials are purchased for you in advance of the class. We understand life happens but to cancel or reschedule for a session later in the year, please contact up one week prior to the class start date to allow someone else to use your slot. Students are required to: 1. Follow all safety guidelines of the MGW studio 2. Wear proper safety gear when using equipment. 3. Follow equipment shutdown and clean up processes as defined on wall signage and equipment checkout 4. Treat others with respect Failure to follow any of these may grounds for removal.
