Service Description
A five week class that teaches the fundamentals of glassblowing. At completion, students will know how to safely create the basic shapes of blown glass objects. Class includes 4 hours each week of instruction/shop time with additional 2 hours of private lab time practice what you've learned. Classes run Thursday nights from 6p-10p. Over the class, students will learn the ins and outs of the hot shop, to safely gather, shape and finish basic forms of glass vessels using clear glass. Students completing this class will be allowed to book private slots and Monterey Glassworks, and should feel comfortable taking follow on workshops with prerequisites of intro to glassblowing. This class will introduce the following skills: - Introduction to basic hot shop tools & equipment - Safe glassblowing methods - Gathering from a furnace - Basic shaping and forming of the glass (with tools such as blocks, paper, paddles, jacks, and the marver). - Teamwork and communication - Neckline, -Punty transfer & knock-off/ annealer put-away - Intro to basic shapes and vessels (cups, rondels, cylinders, cones, spheres, etc.) - Intro to cold working (flat grinder and punty removal). Lab Slots: All students will attend Thursday night (6-10p) lessons & open blow. All students will be additionally given a 2 hour lab slot where they will pair up with another student to practice. Participants will choose lab times during the first class (Labs are first come first serve on either Monday evening or Saturday mornings). FAQ: Q: Can I take this class multiple times, or is it just for beginners? A: Yes, of course. Many students do. As you gain confidence in your glassblowing skills, you may wish to switch to our private glassblowing sessions to reserve your own studio time, and get coaching on more complex techniques/art projects. But you are absolutely welcome to take this class multiple times. Cancellation Policy
1. Students canceling up to 1 week prior to the beginning of class will receive 100% refund. 2. Canceling within 1 week of the beginning of class will receive a 75% refund. 3. Waitlist candidates will be offered slots as they become available on a first come, first invite basis. You will have 24 hours to respond and pay before we offer to the next on the waitlist. Students will be provided a safety briefing during the first class. Failure to comply with safety requirements are grounds for dismissal. No refund will be paid to students dismissed for unsafe conduct.
