Service Description

OPEN STUDIO **Course Level:** OPEN TO ALL THAT HAVE COMPLETED AN INTRO COURSE AT MGW OR ELSEWHERE (eg MPC, BAGI, etc). **Format:** Multiple Weekly Drop-in Sessions (Wed evenings, Sat mornings) ## Who Is This For? Artists who have completed Intro to Kiln Working or have prior kiln-forming experience. Ideal for working artists/makers who lack access to their own home studio or need larger professional equipment...or who simply enjoy working in a shared artist space. Once you've completed Intro to Kiln Working, Studio Colab is your creative playground. Work on independent projects in an open studio environment, equipped with professional equipment and staffed by knowledgeable working glass artists. — perfect for local artists who want confidence and community without the cost of a private studio ## How it Works - **Self-Directed Project Work:** Bring your own glass and tools or use our studio tools. Design and execute pieces to your vision. - **Firing Guidance:** Get expert feedback on kiln schedules, setup, and technical challenges before you fire. - **Problem-Solving:** Learn troubleshooting techniques for the inevitable "unexpected results" (and how to turn them into assets). - **Tool Access:** Use our full studio—cold shop, wet saw, grinder, annealing kiln—with professional guidance. - **End Result:** Completed, fired glass pieces that reflect *your* artistic direction. ## Important to Know **Prior Experience:** Intro to Kiln Working completion or equivalent skills. **Class Size:** 4–6 artists per session (Enough community, enough attention). **Materials:** Bring your own or purchase from local suppliers (Studio can recommend). **Warm Shop:** Fee includes access to warm complete warm studio, hand tools, tables and consumable supplies (shelf paper, fiber paper, kiln wash, etc). **Cold Shop** - Attendees that have completed intro to kiln working, or have taken a separate cold shop checkout class may also use the cold shop and any equipment they are checked out on. Please select this as an add on when booking. **Sand Blaster & Casting Cabinet** - Available for attendees that have completed Mold Making blast-off workshops and are qualified on the equipment. Please select add ons when booking. **Firing Fees:** Firing fees are billed and scheduled separately. If the kiln is not available on the day of your open studio, your work will be staged, loaded and unloaded per your instruction by the MGW studio tech on the day of your firing.

Cancellation Policy

Space is limited and materials are purchased for you in advance of the class. We understand life happens but to cancel or reschedule for a later session, please do so prior to the class start date to allow someone else to use your slot. Firings and Art studio dedicated space/storage are not included in this service and must be purchased separately if required. Artists are required to: 1. Follow all safety guidelines of the MGW studio 2. Wear proper safety gear when using equipment. 3. Follow equipment shutdown and clean up processes as defined on wall signage and equipment checkout 4. Treat others with respect Failure to follow any of these may grounds for removal.
